Ghana has been drawn in Group B of the upcoming Amputee Football World Cup scheduled to take place in Guadalajara, Mexico, from October 24 to November 5, this year.
Ghana’s Amputee Football National Team, the Black Challenge, would play Argentina, Italy and France in the 24- nation tournament that was last won by Russia.
The draw, held in the host City, Guadalajara, in the presence of the President of the World Amputee Football Federation (WAFF), Mr. Richard Hofmann and Executive Committee Member, Fred Sorrels, put the 24 nations in six groups made up of four nations each.
In an interview in Accra after monitoring the draw, Rev Richard Nii Amartey Adesah, expressed the hope that Ghana would sail through to the next stage and win the cup.
“Irrespective of which nation we meet, we remain hopeful we would sail through to the next stage of the event after the group stages and bring the cup to Ghana,” Rev Adesah stated.
He called on Ghanaians to support the team to the World Cup through donations and other contributions, disclosing that, one could donate through the special code, *713*3907# on all networks to contribute at least one Ghana Cedi in what he termed, “One Ghanaian One Ghana Cedi” project.
The Black Challenge would be called to camp soon to begin preparations for the Mundial. They have to overcome the threat of Argentina and dispose of Italy and France to keep their first-ever world cup trophy dream a reality.
