Some major roads within the Dome-Kwabenya constituency that are in deplorable state have been awarded to Ghacos Ghana Limited for rehabilitation.

The scope of work to be carried out by the contractor include construction of 1.5km of dual carriageway from Dome Roundabout to Taifa with provision for roadside drains; construction of ancillary roads to improve traffic management and safety in the area; construction of a 750-metre storm drain to reduce the perennial flooding within the area; construction of walkways along the roads to improve pedestrian safety; and streetlights to improve visibility at night for motorists and pedestrians.

Other roads earmarked to benefit from this facelift are Old and New Agbogba, Hatso, Dome Pillar 2 (Antie Mary), Kwabenya and Abokobi. The cost of the project is GH¢19.1m and is expected to be completed within 12 months.

Commenting on the road project at a sod-cutting ceremony to commence work in Accra last Wednesday, the Second Deputy Majority Leader and MP for the area, Ms. Sarah Adwoa Safo, lauded her constituents for enduring the pain of plying on such bad roads for a very long time.

Competitive Bidding

He said the project was awarded to M. F. Ghacos Ghana Limited after a rigid national competitive bidding process, stressing that under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo, “sole sourcing, selective tendering, price quotation and the likes are a thing of the past.”

Prompt payment

Mr Amoako-Attah bemoaned the deplorable state of most roads across the country and attributed it to the non-payment of contractors who deliver their side of the bargain.

Value for money

Mr Amoako-Attah urged the contractor to work and deliver on time, since there would be no room to entertain excuses and delay of the work.

“We are going to pay for these roads with taxes paid by all Ghanaians and all of us here and woe betide the contractor if he should joke with this project”.
